Issue Position: American Exceptionalism

America's exceptionalism has always been founded in four things. First, the United States is a land that has been established upon principles of freedom and liberty that in this day and age are embodied in the United States constitution. Second, the United States is a choice land with many resources. These resources, coupled with freedom and liberty, have allowed people to develop those resources and their talents in such a way that the people have prospered. Third, the United States has been exceptional because of the moral integrity of the majority of the people who have lived here. And last, America has been blessed by the hand of God. There has been no lack of divine providence in its inception or progress. More than anything else, these four things have defined what the United States is and what it should be for the rest of the world.

This continent has always been an exceptional place. There have been four civilizations that have possessed this continent. When the first people came here they were told that the land would be a choice land above all others and that whatsoever nation should inhabit the land must serve the Lord their God, who is Jesus Christ, or they would be swept off." The second group to inhabit the land was extended the same promise and also told that it would be a land of liberty to whatsoever nation should possess this land and that there would be no kings established in the land in later times.

To serve the God of this land, who is Jesus Christ, does not mean that only Christians can live here. Anyone who lives the kind of moral life that Jesus advocated, in reality, serves him. Any people, of any religion, including Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims and even atheists are free to live here as long as they are willing to live by the moral laws that Jesus taught. He taught that we should love one another and do unto others as we would have them do unto us. He also taught that we should observe the commandments as contained in the Ten Commandments. Anyone who is willing to live such moral standards should be welcome to live here and can prosper in the land. The Lord's promise also contains a warning; if the people become morally corrupt they will be swept off.

Speaking of America the Lord has said "And for this purpose have I established the constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood." He also said "the law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind and is justifiable before me." The rights and privileges that are granted in the constitution of the United States belong to all mankind!

Our domestic and foreign policy should be based on the principles contained in the Constitution and in that morality which will allow those freedoms to be perpetuated. This does not mean that we should force our political rights or morality on other people or other nations but it does mean that we should be an example to the rest of the world of the value of these Constitutional principles and invite and encourage all nations to maintain or embrace them.
